American newspaper: Soros celebrated with Rama, the leader implicated in the FBI corruption case
The well-known American newspaper, "Washington Free Beacon ", has dedicated an article to the visit of the former American president, Bill Clinton, to Tirana on July 3 and 4, where he celebrated the birthday of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The article states that Clinton spent the "4th of July" holiday (US Independence) in the company of Alex Soros and Edi Rama, who is connected to the bribery scandal in the FBI.
Excerpt from the article:
"Aleks Soros recently took over his father's left-wing nonprofit Open Society Foundations, which aims to root out government corruption in foreign countries.
But the younger Soros may have undermined that mission in his July 4 meeting with a European leader implicated in the alleged bribery of a top FBI counterintelligence official.
Soros and former President Bill Clinton met with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama in Tirana, according to Soros' posts on social networks. Soros called Rama, head of the Socialist Party of Albania, his 'brother' and one of the world's greatest leaders. But Rama's reputation has taken a major hit after the lawsuit against former FBI counterintelligence official Charles McGonigal.
According to federal prosecutors, McGonigal sold access to Rama and other Albanian officials for hundreds of thousands of dollars while still on the FBI payroll.
After meetings with Rama, the Albanian leader allegedly gave McGonigal information about an American lobbyist working for Rama's political rival. McGonigal then allegedly instigated his FBI colleagues to launch an investigation into the lobbyist.
McGonigal is accused of concealing his ties to foreign nationals and making false statements. Rama has denied wrongdoing, but it is not the first time he has been accused of using the Americans to help him politically. In 2019, an Albanian-American businessman admitted that he had deposited $80,000 in illegal contributions to Barack Obama's campaign, on behalf of Edi Rama in 2012. Rama allegedly wanted a photo with the American president to help his campaign for prime minister.
The mandate of the new Soros is off to a rocky start. The Open Society announced last week that it will cut its workforce by at least 40 percent in order to create a more agile organization. The charity is offering seminars on the well-being of its employees after layoffs," the paper said.
