Convicted of assault, 39-year-old wanted man arrested in Greece

Citizen Marinel Demiri, who was declared an international wanted person, has been arrested. The 39-year-old was arrested in Greece after being convicted of intentional serious injury.

Demiri was involved in a conflict with sharp objects in the village of Pojan, Korça, during which citizen AZ, 75 years old, lost his life, who had intervened to help his son during the conflict with the youths.

"Following the cooperation of the Interpol Directorate with counterpart offices, for the capture and extradition of internationally wanted persons, the Albanian citizen Marinel Demiri, 39 years old, resident of Pojan, Korça, has been arrested in Greece.

The 39-year-old was arrested by Greek police authorities with the aim of extradition to Albania, pursuant to an international arrest warrant issued by the Interpol Directorate, after the Tirana Court of Appeal sentenced him to 5 years and 6 months in prison for the criminal offense of "Intentional serious injury". (He still has 4 years, 5 months and 18 days left to serve).

"The investigation results in the fact that citizen Marinel Demiri was involved in a conflict with sharp objects in the village of Pojan, Korça, during which citizen AZ, 75 years old, lost his life, who had intervened to help his son during the conflict with the youths," the police announced.
