But is this business really so profitable that one might even consider blowing up ferries due to competition?

A war that, if it weren't for the roar of explosives at sea and the name of a victim that brought it to light, we would have a hard time understanding how fierce this competition is today.

"This is a war between shipping businesses... This business is not as profitable as what is said and heard outside, as the season only lasts 2-3 months and during the other months the ships need services, repairs. We need to keep the staff," says Andrea Qirjako.

But even though it doesn't seem to be a profitable business as we are told, wars, whether they are within businesses, they obviously have a common feature: first envy and then weapons.

As it seems to have happened in what we can now call the 'Battle for the Ferries' in Saranda.

Meanwhile, the Qirjako brothers are now requesting that the prosecution expand the scope of the investigation and, in addition to taking Erdion Muhos as a defendant, extend the subject of the investigation to Greek businessman Petro Papikinos.

This, according to the Qirjako brothers, is because the perpetrators must answer for both committing the crimes of illegal competition through violence and intentional indirect murder, to the detriment of the victim Armandi Nelaj, who lost his life on the evening of June 24, 2024, while he was going to place the remote-controlled mine on one of the ferries owned by rivals in the ferry business.

Currently, in the Port of Saranda, 4 companies operate in the field of maritime transport, operating the Saranda - Corfu line.

Specifically, the companies 'Finikas', 'Joy Cruise', 'Terini Travel Agency' and 'Albania Luxury Ferries'.

The latter is owned by the wife of former Interior Minister Saimir Tahiri, Fatlinda Tahiri, as well as Greeks Evangelia Barmpagianni and Konstantinos Antiochos.

Until 2017, Antiochos was a partner with Shpëtim Muho, the owner of 'Joy Cruise', father of Erdion Muho, but that same year they broke up in their partnership for one of the ferries, while in 2023 they broke up for the other ferry as well. News 24
