Police found Albanian citizen Almir Cahani hiding in an attic, after using bolt cutters to enter the building.
As previously reported by Greatest Hits Radio, 77kg of the class B drug – worth £771,000 – was seized during the raid at the former Buccleuch Hotel in Trinity Street, along with 410 plants, which were not yet fully matured.
At Jedburgh Magistrates' Court today, Cahani pleaded guilty to manufacturing the class B drug. However, pleas of not guilty to a breach of the Electricity Act were accepted by the Crown.
The sentence for the 31-year-old has been postponed until next month. The case will return to Court on September 2. Sheriff Peter Paterson warned Cahan it was "almost inevitable" the charges would result in a prison sentence.
Last month, Cahan's co-defendant – 41-year-old Dritan Katana, also from Albania – was jailed for 28 months after pleading guilty to similar charges and warning that he will face deportation upon his release.
