The Bank of Albania has undertaken an awareness campaign, precisely in the context of the 'misunderstandings' that occur with the lek. With the motto "Neither old nor young, I am just Lek!", We will work to remove from everyday language the two terms that refer to the lek: new and old.

"We are all aware that, unfortunately, this usually happens not only in the daily communication of citizens with each other, but also in their economic and financial relations, thus becoming a source of deliberate misunderstandings. or not " , said the Governor of the Bank of Albania Gent Sejko.

Although financial institutions and public administration have not escaped the use of these terms, Sejko says that the names are more common in the family, in retail outlets as well as in public transport.

On the other hand, the data show that miscommunication of the value of the lek occurs much less frequently in financial institutions (banks, non-banks, etc.) with only 28.1%, or in public administration offices (39.4%), although it may "These figures were expected to be even lower," said the governor.

Sejko did not rule out the media either. Based on a survey by the Bank of Albania, 20% of citizens say that the media often communicate prices in old lek.

"This percentage, although low, highlights the need for more media involvement in the effort to completely eradicate this phenomenon, especially given its obligation to convey true and accurate information to the public, as well as its educational role. of her ", Sejko affirmed.

Convinced that this awareness campaign will take a long time to yield results, Sejko called on all institutions and the media to cooperate in eradicating the terms "new" or "old".
