Escaped from prison, Daut Laze's testimony comes to light: I was hiding in

Daut Hysen Laze, wanted after escaping from the Special Medical Institution at the Lezha Penitentiary, was arrested yesterday evening by the forces of Police Station No. 6 in Tirana.

It is reported that Laze stated during interrogation that throughout his time on the run, he moved within the territory of Tirana, mainly in the areas of Fresku, Kombinati and Astir.

According to his testimony, he took refuge in several mosques in the capital, taking advantage of the atmosphere of the month of Ramadan, where, as he said, he was helped by various believers of the Islamic faith to avoid capture by the authorities.

After his arrest, Laze was immediately taken to the Lezha District Directorate, where he is expected to be questioned by the Prison Control Service regarding the method of escape and the people who may have helped him.

The police announced that, for almost two weeks, law enforcement had been monitoring his apartment in the Astir area, based on operational information suggesting his possible return home. It was there that he was arrested.

While on the run, the 49-year-old is suspected of having changed his physical appearance to avoid identification and arrest by the police.

Investigations are continuing to discover whether Laze had accomplices and whether there was organized assistance in his escape from the prison hospital.
