If you consume one egg a day, you reduce the risk of contracting this disease.

People who eat one egg a day have a significantly reduced risk of cardiovascular disease compared to those who do not eat eggs at all, according to a Chinese-British scientific study.

The researchers, led by Professor Liming Li of the School of Public Health at Peking University, who published the corresponding publication in the British medical journal Heart, analyzed data on approximately 416,000 people aged 30 to 79 who did not have heart disease at the start of the study.

The participants were followed for about nine years and their health status was linked to their diet. During that time, nearly 84,000 people developed heart disease or had a heart attack or stroke, while about 10,000 died from these cardiovascular causes.

It was found that those who ate an average of one egg per day (13% of participants) had a 26% lower risk of hemorrhagic stroke, a 28% lower risk of death from hemorrhagic stroke, a 12% lower risk of ischemic heart disease, and an 18% lower risk of death from cardiovascular causes overall, compared to those who did not eat many eggs.

“The study shows that there is an association between moderate egg consumption, up to one per day, and a lower incidence of cardiovascular events,” the researchers said. The study does not provide evidence on how high egg consumption (more than one per day) is associated with cardiovascular risk.
