Diaspora mail-in votes, envelopes with ballots start shipping today

The first shipment of election materials for the diaspora will begin this Monday. The envelopes have been prepared for several days at the Olympic Park in Tirana, and will be sent to Albanians living abroad.

The preparation procedure includes stamping the ballot, inserting it into an anonymized envelope, then placing it in a second envelope containing the voter's encrypted data.

Along with Envelope B, the final package also includes a guide on how to vote, a list of international courier contacts, and a return envelope for returning the vote to the CEC.

Some of the districts with fewer voters, such as Kukës, Dibra and Vlora, have already completed the preparation of materials, which have been sent by mail.

Chief Commissioner Ilirjan Celibashi announced earlier that Albanian citizens living in European countries can expect their envelopes to arrive within 48 hours. He called on emigrants to vote within three days and to call the contacts provided after the process is complete.

Envelopes with diaspora votes are expected to begin returning to the CEC by the middle of next week, while the counting will take place on May 11, the same day as voting within the country.
