Rama should change the slogan, Berlin: "NO to EU enlargement"

While Edi Rama in Albania is campaigning with the only card he has left, the entry of Albania into the EU and the provision of Albanian citizens with a European passport, a signal that refutes this propaganda has arrived from Berlin. In the agreement concluded between the two major parties CDU and SPD to govern Germany, one of the points of the agreed program is the blocking of EU enlargement until a deep reform within the union. The coalition agreement to be led by Chancellor Mertz states: The coalition agreement states: “EU enlargement requires an internal consolidation and reform of the EU that strengthens it institutionally.”

This was confirmed today by the major German newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung in a long article titled: “Rejection of EU enlargement.” Its author is the renowned journalist and specialist of our region, Michael Martens.

He reposted this article on his social network "X" - formerly Twitter, reinforcing it with a note:

"The new German government, in its coalition agreement, has clearly stated its opposition to EU enlargement – that is, against accepting new members with full status," Martens wrote.

A few days ago, the German Bild had also reinforced this news by making the connection with the disappointment it will cause in our region, where there is increasing talk that Albania and Montenegro are closer to the EU; "This will cause dissatisfaction, especially in the Balkans: the new German government is essentially stopping EU enlargement. As it insists on a fundamental reform of the EU and its decision-making mechanisms as a condition for the admission of new member states such as Kosovo, Serbia or Albania, which are on the waiting list."

On Saturday, at the opening of his party's electoral campaign, Prime Minister Rama gave a long speech in which it was noted that EU accession was his only electoral promise. Ignoring all the failures, his comrades who have ended up in prison and the rampant corruption, Rama has decided to lure the electorate with the European passport as part of the "Albania 2030" project. The slogan of his campaign is: "Only with Edin in the EU". Even all the regional leaders did not forget to repeat that this is an objective that comes as a vocation since the time of Sekenderbeg and which can only be achieved by the reincarnation of the national hero in today's time.

But, unlike the propaganda that says Albania will close 35 chapters by 2027 - a very optimistic objective - to become a member of the EU, Albania must also receive the special vote of the member states, each of which must express its approval in the parliament or through a referendum of each new accession. Even before this process can happen, the first serious blow has come, and not from any other country, but from Germany, whose new government has decided to say no to enlargement./ Lapsi.al
