Albania will hold the fourth intergovernmental conference in Luxembourg today. During this meeting, two group chapters on the internal market and competition will be discussed.

The intergovernmental conference will discuss the advancement of Albania's integration processes into the European Union. So far, three intergovernmental conferences have been held that have had as their objective discussions and Albania's progress on the path of integration.

The first intergovernmental conference was held on July 19, 2022 in Brussels, where negotiations were opened for Cluster 1, which includes several chapters in various areas.

This group-chapter was one of the most important, touching on essential aspects such as justice, the judiciary, the functioning of democratic institutions, public procurement and public administration reform.

The second conference took place on October 15, 2024, also in Luxembourg, where negotiations were opened for an important group-chapter, dealing with the issues of justice, the judiciary and democratic institutions.

Hungary, which held the six-month presidency of the EU, organized this conference after reaching an agreement among member states that Albania had met the conditions for opening the first group of chapters related to fundamental rights.

The third intergovernmental conference was held on 17 December 2024 in Brussels and took place at ministerial level, serving to open negotiations on Cluster 6: External Relations, including chapters “Chapter 30 – External Relations” and “Chapter 31 – Foreign, Security and Defence Policy”.
