Mallakastër/ Human remains in the open ground for years, frightening

Fiks Fare denounced a scandal in the village of Ninesh in Mallakastër on Monday evening, where human bones had surfaced. The investigative show's editorial office received information, accompanied by a video, showing the skeleton of a human body on the side of the road.

The Fix group traveled to that village, while the journalists spoke with several residents, who said that in the village of Ninesh, in the Fraternal Unit of Mallakastra, for about 3-4 years, the remains of an old grave have been found on the road above this village. They say that no institution has seen them, while adding that even children are not allowed to cross that road.

According to them, the road was paved about 20 years ago with cobblestones and connects the village with the surrounding hills as well as with a village in Memaliaj. According to them, at that time, heavy vehicles came and widened the existing road. Then, due to the rains that fell, the bones of a buried body appeared on the escarpment of one side of the road.

Residents claim that the remains have been in that place for years, as they point out that there are old cemeteries in that place. There are even some new graves. "Everyone knows that they are old graves. There are stones and there are graves underneath. Now there are also new graves. But no institution has come to see them," claims a resident.

Fiksi also talks to a lady who has a house next to the cemetery. She has 3 children, the youngest is 10 years old, and she says she has not let her children go to that street and play. "The children saw it and asked me. I told them it's nothing, they're stones. I haven't let them play there and cross the street, it's very scary," she says.

The journalists contact the Mallakastra Police, who said they will verify the case. A few minutes later, the area's police chief arrives at the scene, who says that so far they have not received any complaints or denunciations. He claims that they will now make the necessary verifications. He adds that the investigation group will come and expert tests will be carried out to reach a conclusion.

Meanwhile, the Fratar Administrative Unit also had no information or complaints about the problem in question. Administrator Shkëlqim Kapllanaj said that after the case was identified by Fiks Fare, he will go to that location himself and take measures.

A few days later, journalists contacted the Administrator of the Fratar Unit, Shkëlqim Kapllanaj, again, who said that “today (April 7, 2025), we are dealing with that problem, because the police came, put up the tape and we waited for them to respond.” According to him, the site will be covered with a wall and filled with soil from the inside so that it is no longer visible. “It was not decided to exhume it, because it takes long procedures. In time, archaeology will come, do those DNA tests, what time it belongs to, who it belongs to. And we decided that we will wall it up there, a wall will be built,” he says.

He further adds that the wall will be filled with soil, so that the skeleton is not concreted. "It is a grave, in a word, from what we asked the headman and the old people who are there, it is a grave over 300 years old. Since the time of the plague, they used to throw people like this. Because if you looked at it, it was placed on its side, buried. Not like they are usually buried," adds the Administrator.

Fiksi asked him how it was possible that no one saw them. "I also asked the village headman about that. You have information from the village, from the residents, from these neighborhoods here, I have no information! We turned our archive here, the Unit, upside down if there were no complaints. There were none! No one notified. Who would have thought that we who were passing by would look at the side of the wall, it never occurs to you. Even in that village there, in that neighborhood there, there is also the former Head of the Unit who was there before me. And he did not know, I have no information, I did not deal with this work" he concludes, as the workers have gone and are working to fix the old cemetery. / Top Channel
