China retaliates against the US, imposing tariffs of 84% on imports of American goods.

This move by China has further ignited a trade war between the world's two largest economies.

China raised its targeted tariff on US imports by another 50 percentage points from the original amount, which will take effect on Thursday, matching the additional tariff that US President Donald Trump has already imposed on Chinese goods. 

"The escalation of US tariffs on China is mistake after mistake, seriously violating China's legitimate rights and interests and seriously undermining the rules-based multilateral trading system," China's State Council Tariff Commission said in a statement announcing the new tax.

China was the hardest hit country with a tax of at least 104% on all its goods.
