Faced with global challenges and an increasingly connected world, economic diversification is a key factor for the preservation and sustainable development of a state.

In this context, Albania ranks 84th in the Global Economic Diversification Index Report 2025, achieving an overall score of around 81 points. This report provides an in-depth insight into countries that have been able to diversify their economies and those that still face challenges.

Albania, while making strides in production, trade, and income, lags behind most Balkan countries. The data shows that the country still has much room for improvement in terms of further economic diversification, a process that could include developing new sectors, improving the business climate, and investing in human capital.

This index measures economic diversification in three main areas:

Albania ranks lower than most Balkan countries, with the exception of one country missing from the index. Serbia: 66th place (higher than Albania). Bosnia and Herzegovina: 61st place. This indicates a need for improvement in terms of economic diversification compared to the region.
