The agreement signed last year by the Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni and the Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama for the accommodation of refugees, still remains on paper as the camps have not been opened.

Italy's controversial plan to open migrant processing centers in Albania has been delayed. Officials mention construction issues in the Gjadër area mainly due to the hot weather in the region, writes Euronea.

Initially set to open on Thursday, the centers are expected to be operational in a few weeks, according to Italian Cabinet Secretary Alfredo Mantovano.

While the protests have taken place in Tirana and Lezhë, many residents near the facilities seem largely indifferent.
