The mystery of the murder of the Albanian businessman, his friend: I remember

The search for the weapon used to fatally shoot Albanian businessman Artan 'Toni' Kaja continues. There are still many questions surrounding the crime that occurred in Lunata, where the body of the 52-year-old Albanian was found inside the grounds of the Smurfit Kappa paper factory.

A gunshot to the lower part of the neck took the Albanian's life, while according to initial investigations he was lying on his back and is suspected of not having noticed the perpetrator, according to Italian media.

The morning after the body was found, Marjan Pepa, the victim's age and fellow villager, as well as a long-time friend, appeared at the police station.

"I am responsible for what happened at the paper mill," were the only words he managed to say, before going into a state of shock.

After the surrender, Marjan Pepa was arrested and is currently in a cell in San Giorgio in Lucca.

He is being followed by a psychiatrist, while his silence is also complicating the investigations, as two key aspects remain shrouded in mystery: the motive that pushed Marjan Pepa to kill his friend and the place where he threw the gun.

According to an initial reconstruction, the killer passed through the Lunata cemetery and entered the factory by climbing over a wall. He went up behind Toni Kaja and shot him.

But the gun has not yet been found, despite extensive searches throughout the area, and Pepa seems to have no memory of what happened to the gun.

As for the motive, however, it is currently thought that everything is related to the relationship between the two friends, which had long since broken down.

Grudges over the years as a result of envy and jealousy, various situations at work and in the family have created clashes between them, leading to the murder of the 52-year-old. Some answers will come from the autopsy, which will be performed tomorrow.
