The Border and Migration Police in Korça have foiled an attempt to illegally cross the border.

As a result, a Syrian was arrested, who is accused of organizing and carrying out the activity of providing assistance for illegal border crossings for profit.

He helped immigrants from Third Countries illegally cross the green border with Greece, with the aim of crossing into Montenegro and then into EU countries.

More specifically, within the framework of the coded operation "Valley 2", citizen MH, 18 years old, was arrested, who is charged with the criminal offense of "Aid for illegal border crossing".

Police authorities report that the 18-year-old Syrian was captured overnight, in the village of Vidohova, accompanying 6 Egyptian and Syrian citizens (4 of whom were minors).

"From the in-depth investigations conducted for several months, it results that this citizen has committed this criminal activity several times before, but the immigrants were caught by the police services, in an attempt to cross towards Montenegro." - the Police announced.

Authorities say investigations are continuing to fully document this criminal activity, as well as to identify and apprehend other citizens involved.

The procedural materials have been passed to the Korça Prosecutor's Office for further action.
