Post:

PROF. SELMAN SHEME IS HERE

The news of the death of Prof. Selman Sheme, a tireless researcher and former Chairman of the Patriotic Association of Chameria, has saddened not only the Cham community, but all those who know who this unusual man was, among the rare ones of this country, with outstanding contributions in the field of historiography, geography, religiosity, folklore and the material and cultural assets of Chameria in particular, but also in Albanian national studies in general. Prof. Dr. Selman Sheme has given us an important publication, a historical work on Chameria, the Cham issue and the testimony that it carries in itself from antiquity to the present day. Having a specific and unique approach, the book “Settlements in the Albanian Historical Space of Chameria” is a heavy stone in the historical and complex references that the researcher proposes to the reader, researchers, institutions and the West in the essential knowledge of Chameria.

In addition to a number of other works on human and regional geography, Prof. Selman Sheme, by tracing and researching the ethnocultural traditions of Chameria, has brought us several outstanding works, which have left their mark on the Albanian and Balkan academic world. This work also includes his monographic studies: “Chameria – country, population and economic life” (2005), “Natural and cultural monuments of Chameria” (2008), “Geospace of Konispoli” (2009), “Southern Epirus – Chameria” (2014), “Chameria – geo-population and ethnocultural perspective” (2016), etc.

Professor Selman Sheme will forever be honored by all Albanians who have known him and his work. He fully deserves eternal honor.

May our friend and fellow patriot rest in eternal peace!
