Pollution in Lake Bufit, Protected Areas Agency: We have few employees, but we

This evening, the show Fiks Fare broadcast the case of pollution in Lake Bufi, an important part of the Butrint National Park.

The editorial office of the show Fiks Fare has received footage of the lake's pollution, where plastic waste is clearly visible, mainly cans that have held pesticides for mandarins.

Fiks Fare journalists traveled to the Butrint National Park to Lake Bufit, to verify the situation, where they also provided images of pollution in this protected area. But not only that, dead creatures can also be seen inside the lake. Lake Bufit, also known as Lake Rreze, is located in the southeastern part of Lake Butrint and covers an area of about 83 hectares.

It is supplied by the powerful saline springs of Rreza, but accumulated pollution threatens the biodiversity and water quality in this important ecosystem.

After verifications made on the ground, Fiks Fare journalists turned to the Agency for Protected Areas in Saranda. An employee of the management sector explained that cleaning the lake is not within her competence, but belongs to another sector. The area manager, in a telephone conversation with journalists, acknowledged the situation, claiming that the cleaning had been done about a month ago.

He also emphasized that the limited number of employees makes it difficult to maintain the area continuously, as this is an area that has problems throughout the year due to rains.

He also promised that measures would be taken to clean the lake and that they would try to clean the entire area within a week.

Three days after Fiksi's intervention, employees of the Saranda Protected Areas Agency launched the action to clean up Lake Bufi, intervening to remove plastic waste and other pollution./TCH
