Known as the "Drug Boss" in the Balkans, Naser Kelmendi is sentenced

The Basic Court in Pristina has announced the conviction against Naser Kelmendi for drug trafficking.

Kelmendi was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison, announced the president of the court, Suzana Kelmendi. She said that the time that Kelmendi has spent in custody will also be counted in the sentence.

"The time spent in prison from May 13, 2013 to June 27, 2017, as well as from February 1, 2018 to July 24, 2018, will be counted in the sentencing," Cerkini said .

The judgment was pronounced in the absence of the accused.

In 2018, the Basic Court in Prishtina found Kelmendi guilty of unauthorized possession of narcotics with the intent of distributing them and sentenced him to 6 years in prison. In the other points of the indictment, which included accusations of organized crime and the murder of Ramiz Delaliq - a citizen of Bosnia - Kelmendi was declared innocent.

However, that same year, the Court of Appeals had returned to retrial the point for which Kelmendi was found guilty.

Kelmendi, born in Peja, is a citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina and was initially arrested in 2013 by the Kosovo Police, based on an international arrest warrant issued by the Bosnian authorities.

In 2012, the US Treasury Department identified Kelmendi under the Foreign Drug Lords Act as a narcotics trafficker./REL
