NYT "unravels" the Rama-McGonigal connections: The former official

The "New York Times" has published new details from the "McGonigal" scandal file, where Prime Minister Edi Rama is also mentioned as a friend of the former FBI official and his close relations with him.

The NYT writes that while McGonigal was still at the FBI, he developed a relationship with Prime Minister Edi Rama and took steps to benefit the politician, according to prosecutors in Washington.

American media adds that Rama has portrayed himself as a reformer and opposed to Russia's war in Ukraine.

After retiring in 2018, McGonigal worked on the payroll of a sanctioned Russian oligarch, Oleg Deripaska, who was once seen as a member of President Vladimir Putin's inner circle, according to the indictment of McGonigal and Sergey Shestakov.
