The prosecution sends Mario Përlleshaj to trial for the murder of Martin

The Tirana Prosecution Office has completed the investigation into the murder of 14-year-old Martin Cani and has sent the suspected perpetrator, minor Mario Përlleshaj, for trial. He is charged with the criminal offense of "Murder under qualifying circumstances" against a minor and against two or more persons, to the detriment of Martin Cani and Luis Meçja.

According to the official announcement, the prosecution has also registered a criminal proceeding for the criminal offense of "Abuse of office", against the staff of the "Fan Noli" school, for actions or omissions that may have influenced the prevention of the event. Investigations into this matter continue to individualize the criminal responsibilities of the persons involved.

The tragic incident
The gruesome murder occurred at noon on October 18, 2024, after a conflict between minors that escalated into the use of a knife. Mario Përlleshaj, a student in the same class as the victim, stabbed Martin Cani in the stomach, who died in hospital as a result of his injuries. The victim's friend, Luis Meçja, was also injured, as was the perpetrator himself, who was treated in a private hospital.

The prosecution has separated the acts for the investigation of the school staff and will continue with further actions to determine their legal responsibility in this event.

The Prosecutor's Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction, Tirana, completed the investigations and sent to trial the citizen MP, accused of committing the criminal offense of 'Murder under qualifying circumstances' against a minor and against two or more persons, provided for by Article 79, letters a) and dh) of the Criminal Code, to the detriment of the minors MC and LM.

After a complete and comprehensive investigation, the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction of Tirana has completed the investigations regarding criminal proceedings no. 7676, registered on 18.11.2024/

Also, the prosecution body has decided to separate the acts of this proceeding, the acts related to the criminal offense "Abuse of office", provided for by Article 248 of the Criminal Code, regarding the actions or omissions of the school staff, which have been registered in another proceeding, and for which the investigations continue as it is necessary to carry out other investigative actions, in order to individualize the guilt and specific criminal responsibilities.
