Street dogs will be chipped, in Albania, the process is closed for two months

We all witness the fact that people are attacked or bitten by stray dogs or even dogs with owners.

In 2019, several amendments to the Criminal Code came into effect in our country, aimed at tightening the measures. And in a law it is stated that if a person is bitten by a dog without a mask, the owner of the animal is punished by a fine of up to 6 months in prison, and if there are victims, the penalty goes up to 5 years in prison.

"The direct owner of dogs without owners or street dogs are the municipalities. While for animals with an owner, the owner is directly responsible and must register, vaccinate, identify his animal through the electronic chip. But in fact, in these 33 years in Albania, no initiatives have been undertaken to advance this law, its applicability. Even in the European Union, there are few countries that have forced the unification of the passport at the national level and the implementation of the chip in companion animals, i.e. in dogs and cats" - said Ervin Resuli, President, Order of Veterinarians.

Within two months, this process is also expected to be completed in Albania, i.e. the unification of the passport at the national level and the mandatory chip placement for those who keep companion animals. Through this, the owner is expected to be more responsible. When a person is bitten by an animal with a chip, you identify its owner. Or even in the case of abandoning an animal, you immediately identify who did this./Tch
