Energy price increase for bakeries, Competition Authority: Don't abuse the

Today, the increase in the price of electricity for bakeries came into effect, a measure that is expected to affect the prices of dough and pastry products.

For this reason, the Competition Authority has warned the immediate monitoring of businesses to prevent any possible price abuse.

Statement of the Competition Authority:

The Competition Authority announces that the decision of the Energy Regulatory Entity (ERE), no. 72, dated 15.04.2024, entered into force today, November 1, 2024, and that it immediately initiates field monitoring to observe any suspected abusive behavior by bread production and trading businesses.

According to the law no. 9121/2003 "On the protection of competition," all agreements that have the purpose or effect of limiting or distorting competition, including those that directly or indirectly affect product prices, are prohibited. Violation of this law is considered an administrative misdemeanor and is sanctioned with a fine of up to 10% of the turnover of the previous financial year for enterprises involved in illegal agreements.

The authority calls on businesses to comply with the rules to ensure a competitive and fair market for consumers.
