"Albania of the narco and the affairs of the minister's son"/ Rai

Tonight, Rai 3 will broadcast a report about Albania and the immigrant camp in Gjadër. Italian media some fragments of what is expected to come out of the Repor show.

Corruption, illegal contracts, political connections, construction as a money-laundering sector are just some of the issues the articles touch on. Nor are those implicated from the Italian side left behind, where a minister and his son are mentioned, as well as investment companies in both countries.

This evening, the show Report returns to Albania a few days after Giorgia Meloni's advertisement for immigrant centers. It will be a halved commercial, the one on June 5. The relocated centers in the former colony, which the government promised to open on May 20, are not yet there, as is known.

"The work will be finished in November," the site supervisor told the Report's Giorgio Mottoladi. But it is Edi Rama, the Albanian prime minister who made the deal with the Italian prime minister and described the first episode of Ranucci's show as "disgusting": in an almost brawling interview, Rama dismisses with contempt the charge of leading a state of tainted by drug trafficking money.

Meloni, however, declined to speak to Report. Either telemelon or nothing. Meanwhile, yesterday he again sent "a hug" to Rama and recalled that 14 other countries of the European Union are ready to follow Italy in the resettlement of immigrants. But Albania speaks for itself. In the Tirana of skyscrapers, where Rama was mayor before he was prime minister, every three towers are under investigation for corruption or suspected links to drug trafficking.

And 60% of the 3.7 billion euro investment in real estate in 2023, explains Report with the help of journalist Ola Xama. The Albanian does not come from the banking district and is therefore not tracked. As for the immigration centers, the costs have gone from 39 to over 65 million: a disproportionate amount for 3000 countries. The contract for the positioning of the assembled facilities in Gjader was won by Ri Group Spa, a company linked to Salvatore Tafuro, who was put on trial in 2018 and then indicted in 2019 for bid rigging and corruption of senior air force officers regarding the identification center in Foggia.

The management contract, with a reduction of 4.9% that brings it to 134 million euros in 4 years, went to Medihospes. And a giant in the sector, linked to La Cascina, that historic co-operative of the "Comunione e Liberazione" which prospered for decades until its leaders were placed on corruption in the investigation known as the Capital Mafia although it was not then the mafia. Medihospes is the main manager of migrant centers in Rome, it also manages them elsewhere, and the inhumane conditions in which foreigners lived in its center in Foggia were documented by Fabrizio Gatti in L'Espresso. Other Italians, the report says, they do business in Albania. A common thread connects Pietro Urso, the head of a lobbying company, Italian World Service, from which his father Adolfo broke away before taking on the role of 'Made in Italy' minister, with former powerful Albanian politician Artan Gaci and with the same Rama.

Francesco Becchetti, the controversial entrepreneur from Rome who opened the Agon TV channel in Tirana, spoke about this for Report. He was sentenced to 17 years in Albania and is now seeking 135 million euros from the Albanian government based on an international arbitration decision. In the Albanian Chamber of Commerce Urso jr. is the owner of Asigest Broker Albania, a name similar to the Italian spa Asigest Broker, which operates in the insurance sector under the responsibility of the Ministry of 'Made in Italy', formerly of Economic Development and directed precisely by Urso Babai. There is also another company from Tirana, Generate, owned by Andi Canaj, also a partner of other Italians on both shores of the Adriatic, in Asigest, Albania. He met Pietro Urso, he explained to Report, "with mutual friends". While Urso Jr. says he doesn't know his partner.

Canaj is related to Gac: he is "his worker", he confirmed for Report. Additionally, he uses an IN email address from Atcc, a Gaci company. It's not everyone, Gac. Socialist, close to the prime minister, former deputy and chairman of the Italian-Albanian friendship commission and husband of Rama's former foreign minister, Olta Xhaçka. Gaci was building a luxury resort worth over 5 million euros a few meters from the sea, south of Vlora, but the operation ended up at the center of a corruption investigation and the site was seized by Albanian justice. The beach opposite was given for exclusive use by the government, whose member was the wife of Gac, the Agtcc Hotel Manager company of a man related to the former politician which is located at the same address as Generate, the Canaj company in turn is a partner of Pietro Urso.
