Albania depends on imports, natural resources are being used less and less

Even for the year 2021, Albania has been under import dependence and has used less and less the products of the land and underground.

An analysis by Scan Intel shows that the dependence on the import of the total of these products (agricultural products, mining products, construction materials, oil) in our country has climbed to 22.2% in 2021, from 20.9% which was this rate in 2020. or 16.6% in 2017.

Hydrocarbons with 48.9% and metal minerals with 37.9% record the largest share of imports. on the opposite side, we have non-metallic minerals, with 12.5% import dependence, and which mainly include construction materials.

This dependence shows how much the Albanian economy relies on imports to meet the country's needs.

As for productivity, according to INSTAT, in 2021 one kilogram of natural products in our country generated a full 92 ALL in the economy, touching a new historical record, from 85 ALL in 2020, and from 52 ALL in 2016, when the lowest level of the last decade was reached.

As for domestic production, the figures signal that, during 2021, it will be fixed at around 19.1 million tons, increasing compared to 2020, but decreasing compared to 2017, when it was fixed at around 21 million tons, which signals that the growth of import dependence is not the result of the increase in domestic demand, but especially of the decline in production.

This decrease is the result of the contraction of the production of non-metallic minerals, from 10.6 million tons in 2017, to 8.5 million tons in 2021.
