Kosovo "defeats Serbia" in the EC, all harmful amendments are dropped

In the spring session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, where Kosovo's application for membership is being considered, all harmful amendments were rejected.

This has been confirmed by the delegation of Pristina, as well as that of Belgrade in Strasbourg. It is confirmed that the Committee for Political Affairs and Democracy voted against all the amendments proposed by the Serbian, Italian and Hungarian delegations.

It is now official that the formation of the Association of Municipalities with a Serbian Majority will not be a condition for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe. The debate on this issue is expected to start around 16:30, while the vote on the opinion is expected to take place before 20:00.

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, emphasized that today the members of the Assembly of the Council of Europe are given the opportunity to send a strong message that Europe remains strong in its commitment to democracy and human rights!

To pass this second link of membership, Kosovo needs two-thirds of the votes, which it announces that it has, while the last step would be the decision of the Ministerial Council on May 16 to seal the acceptance to the Council of Europe. But this process is facing strong opposition from Serbia, which has created a lobby group to prevent Kosovo's membership.
