The return of the bottles, the citizens of Kosovo will soon be reimbursed

The Minister of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure, Liburn Aliu, has announced that the Deposit Reimbursement System will soon be applied in Kosovo. According to him, the Deposit Refund System will significantly reduce pollution from plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans. Soon, the deposit refund system will be launched in Kosovo as well. This was announced by the Ministry of Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure of Kosovo, who gave more details about this system. This initiative has been welcomed by environmental protection organizations.

From this, the ministry has indicated that the application started on February 20 and that the deadline will be until August 26, 2024 for the application of the Administrator of the SRD system. According to the MPHI, bottles must be made of plastic, glass and aluminum between 0.25 and 2.0 liters.

Luan Hasanaj from Let's Do It-Ta clean Kosovo in a statement to the media has shown how the deposit refund system will be expected from citizens and adds that this system will make their work as an organization easier, because according to him, most of the waste they clean up is plastic waste.

"It is extremely good news because one of the almost main pollutants in the environment today is plastic, so in the activities that Let's Do It develops. Most of the waste that we dispose of is made of plastic, and this is also due to the fact that there is no such activity. It should be processed, recycled and returned to the citizen, so it should be the circular way of their use, so I think it is a very important and very good decision, but we hope that the Ministry of Environment and Infrastructure has surrounded a plan which has to follow the implementation of this decision".

Meanwhile, the director of "EcoZ", Egzona Shala, an organization that deals with the protection of the environment, has shown that Kosovo that such an initiative should have been implemented earlier and that this should be accompanied by an awareness campaign.

"It is lucky that we have probably reached the first step of this initiative. Such an initiative is much earlier to be realized, but even now it is not too late to be realized in our country. This should be followed up with an awareness campaign and a mechanism in place".

With the implementation of this system, citizens will be able to return empty plastic bottles, glass and cans and get back the money they have as a deposit, when they bought products in bottles and cans. The Deposit Refund System will significantly reduce pollution from plastic bottles, glass bottles and aluminum cans. This System is also a mechanism where consumers pay a deposit for products such as plastic bottles or others and then get this deposit back when they return the empty product./ Monitor
