The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, reacted after today's protest in North Mitrovica against the opening of the Ibri bridge.

Kurti has invited the Serbian citizens to participate in the joint discussion organized by the Municipality, where they will be informed about the benefits of the opening of the bridge.

Kurti, in a post on Facebook, writes that the protest held today in North Mitrovica ended without any incident.

"I thank the security institutions that guaranteed its smooth progress. Protests are a democratic right that all citizens of our Republic enjoy and can exercise, without distinction ," Kurti wrote.

"I invite our fellow citizens of the Serbian community to participate in this joint discussion in which they will be able to be informed about the benefits of the opening of the bridge and express their concerns which will be addressed by our institutional representatives and the country's institutions ".

"On the bridge we defended survival, now we defend extinction", "If Kurti opens the bridge, KFOR and QUINT will be responsible", "While the EU and the USA are writing statements, they are expelling us" , were some of the messages seen on the protesters' banners in North Mitrovica.

The bridge over the river Ibër separates the Albanian-majority South Mitrovica and the Serb-majority North Mitrovica, and the Government of Kosovo, despite the opposition of the international community, has said that it intends to open it for the movement of vehicles.
