Former President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, received a letter of condolence for the death of his father a few days ago, from retired American General Claude M. Kciklighter.

Kciklighter also spoke about his plan to visit former President Thaçi in The Hague, but that he had to cancel the visit due to health reasons.

Condolence Letter

Honorable President Thaçi,

Dear Mr. President,

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of your father.

We express our most sincere condolences to you and your family.

We know from experience how painful it is to lose a parent, because there is nothing that can compare to this great loss.

We pray that God will give you and your family strength to cope with these difficult times.

We continue to pray for your release, so that you can be reunited with your family, especially now. In my country they say that justice delayed is injustice, and your case has been an injustice from the beginning. It is very painful that during the last years of your father's life, you were not by his side. As I understand it, the court only gave you about three hours to be with him in his final moments.

As you may recall, I had planned to visit you in prison, along with Ambassador and Congressman Tony Hall, and Ambassador Ahmet Shala. Due to illness, I had to cancel my trip, but I have continued to pray for you and your family, and I will continue to do so until the day you are released and reunited with your family, friends, and the wonderful people of Kosovo.

I hope we can visit you soon, and my prayer is that by then this nightmare will be over.

America is truly blessed to have such a strong bond of friendship between our two nations and peoples. I am deeply grateful for this friendship.

With much love, we express our most sincere condolences,

Claude M. Kicklighter

Lieutenant General (Retired) US Army
