The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office announced on Thursday that it has authorized the Kosovo Police to conduct investigative actions at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development regarding suspicions that public officials of this ministry have committed criminal offenses.

Through a press release, the Prosecution said that the suspicions are related to the renovation of the facility once used by the political party, the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, which is now under the management of the Ministry.

The prosecution has said that the public officials are suspected of "abuse of official duty", "abuse of official position", "abuse and fraud in public procurement" and "falsification of documents".

Local media outlet Koha reported a few days ago about a payment made in the amount of 66 thousand euros to a consortium for the removal of furniture from the building that is now under the management of the ministry.

According to these reports, the ministry paid 2 thousand euros to remove furniture from each of the 33 spaces of the building, including the toilets in which there were inventories.

For these services and the renovation of about 600 square meters, the Ministry of Agriculture is believed to have spent 370 thousand euros, according to reports by Koha.

Radio Free Europe has not independently verified these reports.

The Ministry of Agriculture said in a response to Radio Free Europe that it commends the authorities for their quick response and proactive approach, although these actions come after a "speculative media article."
