Putting the bag on the ground is an action that many of us do without thinking too much. Meanwhile, some others never leave it on the ground, because according to a superstition, they "run out" of money.
One of the main reasons why it is not recommended to put the bag on the ground is hygiene. Floors, especially in public places such as restaurants, toilets, public transport and offices, are often 'reservoirs' for bacteria, viruses and other pathogens.
A research conducted in 2016 revealed the presence of about 10,000 different types of bacteria in bags, a number that exceeds that of a toilet.
According to Timothy McHugh, professor of medical microbiology and director of the Center for Clinical Microbiology at University College London, says that "materials such as leather are more likely to harbor organisms than synthetic ones such as plastics because they contain more nutrients and provide better conditions favorable for the growth of bacteria".
Therefore, for this reason, experts suggest some simple measures to avoid unnecessary exposure to possible pollution.
1.Avoid placing the bag on the ground, both outside and inside your home.
2. Do not put the bag in the kitchen or the work table.
3. Washing your hands regularly as it significantly reduces the risk of transferring germs to your bag and other everyday items.
