Roger Federer bids farewell to tennis alongside rival Nadal

Roger Federer, winner of 20 Grand Slam titles, said goodbye to professional tennis yesterday. Federer was showered with ovations from the audience as one of the best players in the history of world tennis.

The Swiss played the final match joining forces with his rival Rafael Nadal against the American pair of Sock and Tiafoe. For almost a year, Federer had missed tennis and yet managed to keep the game together with Nadal, despite losing at the end.

Through tears, Federer expressed himself excited and happy about his achievements. "It's been a great day. I'm happy, not sad. I feel good to be here. I'm glad I made it," he said.

Federer wept as he hugged Nadal and the other players, then received cheers from thousands of fans chanting his name at the O2 Arena in London.

Even Nadal could not hold back the tears. The 36-year-old Spaniard wept as he sat alongside Federer as the pair listened to British singer Ellie Goulding.

Federer and Nadal are nicknamed 'Fedal' by the tennis loving public.
