"Wednesday" dethroned "Stranger Things" in terms of viewing figures for the first week of release. The spin-off of "The Addams Family" took the top spot for viewership figures in its first week of launch, reaching 341.2 million hours of viewing on Netflix. The fourth season of "Stranger Things" reached 335 million hours of viewing. This makes "Wednesday" the most successful English-language series ever in Netflix history.

Netflix estimates that 50 million households worldwide have watched some or all of the series, which stars Jenna Ortega as the eponymous daughter of the famous family. "Wednesday" charted at #1 in 83 countries around the world and boasts an ensemble cast including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Gwendoline Christie and Christina Ricci. Christina Ricci played exactly the role of Wednesday in "The Addams Family" of 1991.

However, neither "Stranger Things" nor "Wednesday" surpassed "Squid Game," which racked up 571.76 million hours of viewing in its first week of release. "Wednesday" centers on Wednesday Addams, daughter of Morticia and Gomez, as she tries to solve a mystery at her new school. The viewership numbers are good news for Netflix at a time when the platform is facing competition from Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Disney+.
