Tragedy in North Macedonia, wife and daughter of disco owner arrested, 34

The investigation into the catastrophic fire at the 'Puls' discotheque in Kočani, North Macedonia, continues with intensity, while the number of suspects has reached 34. The prosecution has opened an investigative procedure against 27 individuals and three legal entities, including seven police officers from the SPB Štip and Kočani.

Police have raided several locations, including another building owned by the discotheque owner and the offices of the State Market Inspectorate in Kocani. The wife and daughter of the owner of the 'Puls' discotheque are in police custody, while the owner himself is currently being treated in a hospital in Lithuania, along with three other patients injured in the tragedy.

Ongoing charges and investigations

The suspects face charges of serious offenses against public security and causing public danger. The investigation is being led by 11 prosecutors from Skopje, Kocani and Shtip, while the Public Prosecution Office has launched new inspections and confiscated electronic equipment for expertise. The Financial Police has been involved in the investigation to verify the suspicions of the involvement of various entities in this tragedy.

What happened at the 'Puls' discotheque?

In the early hours of March 16, over 650 people, mostly young people, were partying at the 'Puls' discotheque in Kocani. During a performance by the music group DNK, a huge fire broke out, leading to the loss of 59 lives and the injury of over 190 others, some of whom are still in serious condition.

Footage from the scene showed the roof of the bar burned and collapsed in several places, exposing charred interior beams. Of the victims, 20 were minors under 18 years old.

Authorities are continuing investigations to clarify criminal responsibility and to arrest other persons involved in this serious tragedy.
