Macron to The Economist: We could not humiliate Albania by launching accession negotiations with North Macedonia only

French President Emanuel Macron said that the majority of EU member states were in favor of opening accession talks for North Macedonia, but almost half of them were against the same decision for Albania, regardless of those members not speaking out about this.

The French President added that, should negotiations be opened for North Macedonia only, a severe trauma would be caused in the region. If Albania was to be humiliated like that, the region would be greatly destabilized, Macron is reported as saying.
