Domenico Paviglianiti, one of the leaders of the mafia gang in Italy 'Ndrangheta', has fallen into the hands of the Spanish police. Pavigliant controlled most of the cocaine trade in Europe.

According to BBC News , the so-called "boss of bosses" was arrested on the streets of Madrid, after being on the run for two years. Spanish officers fell in his tracks after collaborating with Italian police.

The Ndrangheta is one of the richest criminal groups in the world, operating from Calabria to southern Italy.

Paviglianiti had six cell phones, nearly € 6,000 in cash and fake Portuguese documents when he was arrested as he was leaving his home.

Wanted for his role in crimes committed in the 1980s and 1990s, including murder and drug trafficking, Paviglianiti was first arrested in Spain in 1996.

He was extradited three years later to Italy, where he was sentenced and began serving a life sentence. But in 2019 he was released early due to a mistake in his sentence.

He fled to Spain, where he is suspected of being helped by family members living there. An Italian court handed Pavigliani a new sentence of 11 years in prison in absentia in January for a range of crimes, including murder and criminal conspiracy to commit drug trafficking.

Police believe Paviglianit is the head of a 'Ndrangheta' clan, which oversees shipments of cocaine from South America.

Ndrangheta has amassed vast wealth by importing cocaine from Latin America and hashish from North Africa to Europe.
