Iran has launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel in its first direct attack on Israeli territory. Saturday night's attack was a revenge attack that injured a 7-year-old girl and caused minor damage to an Israeli military facility, writes Al Jazeera .
The attack late Saturday night set off air raid sirens in cities across Israel, including Tel Aviv and West Jerusalem, and explosions were heard as Israeli air defenses intercepted shells.
The Israeli military said the Iranian attack was carried out by more than 300 killer drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missiles and that 99% were intercepted, with the help of forces from the United States and the United Kingdom.
Launches came from Iran, as well as Iraq and Yemen.
Medics said a girl in southern Israel was wounded by a shell, while the military said a small number of hits were identified, including at an Israeli military base in southern Israel, which caused minor damage to infrastructure.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the attack, saying it launched the drones and missiles as part of Operation True Promise as part of punishment for the "Zionist entity's crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Syria" on April 1. .
The Damascus raid killed 12 people, including two senior generals in the IRGC's elite Quds Force.
