Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon reopen airspace

Jordan, Iraq and Lebanon reopened their airspace on Sunday after closing it late Saturday when Iran launched drone and missile strikes against Israel.

Jordanian state television, citing aviation authorities, said the country had resumed air traffic operations.

Iraq's aviation authority said the security risks had now been overcome, while authorities in Lebanon said the country's airport would resume operations after being closed overnight.

Israel also said earlier that it has reopened its airspace.

Iran launched drone and missile strikes against Israel late Saturday in retaliation for a deadly attack on its consulate in Syria on April 1.

Iran accused Israel of carrying out this attack, but the latter neither confirmed nor denied it.

Jordan, which lies between Iran and Israel, put its air defenses on alert to intercept any drones or missiles that trespass on its territory, Reuters news agency reported, citing two regional security sources.

The Israel Defense Force said 99% of Iran's drones and missiles were shot down before entering Israeli airspace.

The US President, Joe Biden, said that the US helped Israel to "take down almost all of them".
