A clash between drug gangs has occurred in Belgium. Foreign media reports that one person has been killed during the clash, which involved gunfire.
It is also said that an increase in crime has been noted in the Belgian capital, home to the main institutions of the European Union.
" There were shootings this morning in Anderlecht. One person lost his life in this incident. He is probably linked to rival drug gangs ," said a spokesman for the Brussels prosecutor's office.
Friday's shooting in Brussels followed another similar incident on Wednesday, which although no injuries were reported led to the brief closure of several metro stations in the Belgian capital while police pursued the suspects.
The Brussels prosecutor's office said it would investigate to see if Friday's shooting was linked to the incident earlier in the week.
