Russia launches supersonic missiles into the Sea of Japan

The Russian navy has fired supersonic anti-ship missiles at a target in the Sea of Japan, the defense ministry claimed this morning.

In a statement, she said the Moskit cruise missiles were fired from missile ships of the Pacific Fleet, reports Sky News .

"The target, located at a distance of about 100 kilometers (62.14 miles), was successfully hit by a direct hit from two Moskit cruise missiles ," the defense ministry said.

The P-270 Moskit missile is a supersonic medium-range cruise missile of Soviet origin, capable of destroying a ship within a range of up to 75 miles.

It comes a week after two Russian nuclear-capable bombers flew over the Sea of Japan for more than seven hours in what Moscow said was a planned flight.
