Three hours after the president's decision, the Parliament voted to lift the decision to declare a state of war, as the Speaker of the Parliament, Woo Won Shik, declared that the decision to declare a state of war "is invalid", adding that the legislators "will defend democracy together with the people".

Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, the party that holds the majority in Parliament, said his lawmakers would stay inside the main hall of Parliament until Yoon formally retracted his decision.

"Legislators of the Democratic Party, including myself and many others, will protect our state's democracy and future, as well as public safety, life and property, with our lives," Lee told reporters.

Jo Seung-lae, a lawmaker from this party, claimed that according to security cameras, military troops are aiming to arrest his party chief, Lee, and even the leader of the president's party, Han Dong-hoon.

Hundreds of protesters gathered outside Parliament demanding to be allowed inside, as police secured the building and special forces attempted to enter.
