Emergency landing in Moscow, plane with 173 passengers survives technical

A Russian airline Utair plane made an emergency landing at Moscow's Vnukovo airport on Tuesday due to a technical fault. The plane, which was carrying 173 passengers, was flying from St. Petersburg to Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Fortunately, the landing was successful and all passengers are safe.

The Utair airline, in a statement to the Russian news agency RIA, explained that the emergency landing was caused by a stabilizer malfunction. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the technical problem.

Crisis in Russian aviation
This event comes at a difficult time for Russian aviation, which is facing severe shortages of aircraft and their parts. Western sanctions, imposed after the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, have disrupted the supply of new aircraft and components necessary for maintenance. Domestic production has not yet managed to replace these shortages, increasing the risk of technical incidents.

Despite these challenges, demand for air travel in Russia continues to grow, driven by economic growth, higher wages and a propensity for spending, partly related to Moscow's war effort.

The passengers on board and the crew, thanks to the quick and careful intervention of the pilots, avoided a potential tragedy. Investigations into the incident are ongoing and it is expected that authorities will release more details in the coming days.
