Rama finds an alibi for pensions: We inherited a scandalous scheme
Prime Minister Edi Rama today held a meeting with pensioners in the city of Korça.
During the conversation, Rama said that in 2013, which coincides with the time when the SP came to power, the pension scheme of 24 thousand ALL was canceled.
HE adds that the pension scheme we inherited was a scandalous scheme.
Rama : You are attentive to political life, because before that I and we have never made promises to increase pensions. We have said that our main goal is to increase pensions, and the most difficult to achieve because the economic opportunities have been very limited while the legacy in all areas has been problematic, especially in pensions, it has been dramatic. It has taken us a long time for all of you, but not for the way the pension system works.
It is universally recognized that a poorly constructed pension scheme costs an entire generation. The pension scheme we inherited was not poorly constructed, it was a scandalous scheme and only to postpone today without thinking about tomorrow. And I'm sure you remember that when they took office, the pension situation was hopeless because there was a ceiling of 24,000 lek, and no matter what contributions people made, they couldn't get more than 24,000. There was no pension of 24,000 lek in 2013 and the average pension at that time was 105 euros.
Not to mention the minimum was a pension that not everyone received as we found tens of thousands of pensioners with no pension at all, generally housewives or even men who had not made any contributions. We carried out the reform, which has caused the then ceiling of 24 thousand lek to be canceled and today we have a number of pensioners who receive 300, 350 and 400 thousand lek due to the contributions they have made, but on the other hand, we have an overview the differentiation between teachers who retired before 2014, and those after 2014, and due to the reform they have a higher pension than those who retired before 2014.
Facts are facts and here in our country, a war has broken out with facts and every lie and opinion is presented as fact. It is therefore said that a pension scheme is the bill of a generation, for better or for worse, and the heaviest cost of that legacy is the cost paid by pensioners. We have increased the economic volume of the country by two and a half times. Wages have increased, and whether in terms of the increase in general production or wages, from the last in the region, today we are the first in the region for growth and in the average of the region for wages.
