The Deputy Chairman of the Democratic Party, MP Oerd Bylykbashi, Albana Vokshi, Jorida Tabaku and the Chairman of the Republican Party, Fatmir Mediu are at the European Parliament in Brussels, as part of a two-day event organized by the EPP and ECR.

Bylykbashi writes in a post on social media that the EPP Political Assembly unanimously approved the DP amendment.

During meetings with the leader of the People's Parties, Manfred Weber, and MEPs from the people's parties, the largest group in the European Parliament, the DP and Mediu MPs explained the situation in Albania and, according to him, the impossibility of free and fair elections.

Bylykbashi's post:

At the EPP Political Assembly, we presented the DP amendment to the EPP resolution on Safeguarding Democracy and Strengthening Electoral Sustainability in Europe.

The amendment emphasizes that disinformation and propaganda from countries such as Russia, China or Iran that aim to undermine democratic systems are reinforced in countries aiming for EU membership by the lack of democratic elections, a weak rule of law and the concentration of power in one hand to the detriment of the separation of powers.

The amendment also emphasizes that widespread corruption and links to organized crime provide these malign actors with secret corridors to penetrate democratic institutions through elected or appointed officials, conveying attitudes that undermine democracy.

The November 2024 resolution on Albania specifically emphasizes the lack of democratic elections, the capture of the state by the Prime Minister, and endemic corruption, as well as the connection of the ruling party elite with organized crime.

Albania is an example of the dangers that a weak democracy, a NATO member and candidate for EU membership, where crime and corruption are rampant, poses to the EU and NATO.

On May 11, 2025, it is our turn, the opposition together with Albanians, to make the change.
