The President of the Republic, Bajram Begaj, has decreed May 11, 2025 as the date of parliamentary elections, relying on the request of the Central Election Commission.
After meetings with political actors, including the Socialist Party, which proposed this date, the opposition has reacted harshly, calling the process a farce and accusing the President of being influenced by Prime Minister Edi Rama.
In the consultations with the President, the SP and the CEC have proposed May 11, while the smaller parties have requested May 4.
