3 victims from "Nile fever", is Albania at risk of an epidemic?

After the COVID-19 that has been around for several years, another virus is threatening the lives of citizens.

It is about "Nile fever", which is considered a common disease, but in just two weeks it has recorded three victims and 17 affected.

Doctor Vasil Llajo has given details on the situation created by the "West Nile Fever" virus in our country.

In A2 CNN, Llajo ruled out the possibility of an epidemic in the country, as according to him, all measures are being taken to avoid progress at such levels of virus spread.

"Nature will do its own cycles as it did with COVID and the flu. It is the turn of the Nile Fever to make an extension in the Balkans, but I emphasize that there is no place for panic and alarm. The measures being taken will curb this viral infection. Nile fever is not transmitted from person to person, only by mosquitoes that have bitten wild birds that have been infected with the virus. I don't believe it will turn into an epidemic because from the moment the alarm bells rang, all the measures started to be taken, and the possibility of spreading is greatly reduced since the measures are being applied."

The doctor also explained the symptoms that appear after infection through mosquito bites, but underlined that 80% of those affected are asymptomatic.

"It doesn't mean that every time we get bitten by mosquitoes we raise the alarm that we will get sick with Nile Fever. But since more cases have appeared, we must be more vigilant. The first signs are of a virus that starts with fever, headache, feeling of vomiting, muscle weakness and thus progresses, 80% of cases are asymptomatic and 20% show symptoms. Less than 1% are affected in such life-threatening ways. Those who suffer the most are those with secondary diseases."
