Genetics refutes Serbian theses on Kelmendi's ancestry

Serbian authors have written extensively on the origins of Albanian mountain tribes, often describing them as of Slavic descent.

Among the most famous is Andrija Joviqijevic, who argues (erroneously according to the results of the Roots Project) that since the elders of Hoti remember that the old tribes in Malësia spoke Albanian, the main tribes of today must have spoken another language. Thus, Kelmendi once classified it as a tribe of Vlach origin, then speculated about Serbian origin.

In recent weeks, the genetic analysis of two of the old families (anas) of Hoti was completed, and both belong to the paternal line E-V13> Z5017> Z16988> BY62310 / BY105970, the same sub-branch where the main trunk of the Kelmendi tribe is located.

So, the analysis confirmed the blood relationship between Kelmendi and that population that Joviiijevi cilës himself describes with full certainty as the Albanian population before the formation of the tribes we know today, finally rejecting his thesis about the differences between the old population and the tribes today. .

In fact, in addition to two families from old Hoti, Kelmendi has genetic links with several other members of the Roots Project from different regions of Albanian lands. Some of these members, including one of the Anase families in Hot, will soon have high-resolution results that will further elucidate the ancestry of these tribes and families, and further develop the lineage tree of the line. father E-V13> Z5017> Z16988> BY62310 / BY105970.

Other Malësia tribes also have genetic links with tribes from other Albanian territories, about which we will continue to write in the future.
