The cancerous hormone banned in the EU and Albania, farmers use it massively in

The show Fiks Fare brought the case of a hormone banned for use in fresh tomatoes, but which is sold without a problem.

Bashkim Likaj, a farmer from Fieri, has been raising concerns about the use of a hormone banned throughout Europe for fresh tomatoes, but widely used in Albania.

"This hormone causes the immediate ripening of the tomato seeds, that is, it only causes their browning, even it is cancerous and Europe has banned it for years, meanwhile it continues to be freely traded in our country," says farmer Likaj.
His efforts have been continuous with all institutions in order to be removed from the list of Plant Protection Products. "I have knocked everywhere, but no one has listened to me, everyone uses this killer hormone without any criteria, the consumer does not know what the farmer does," says Bashkimi.

The farmer also made available to Fiksi a meeting he held with , a specialist of the National Food Authority, the National Veterinary and Plant Protection Authority and members of the Plant Protection Products Registration Commission.

In this meeting, the farmer demands that this hormone is no longer allowed to be used, while the state employees are satisfied that this product is on the list. "At the moment the product is on the list approved by the ministry, we have nothing to do," says the AKU specialist.

But after this meeting, the farmer also asked the ministry to remove Ethephon from the list, and this was done in June 2024.

Where it was decided to change the label of this product, where to remove the use for fresh tomatoes.
But in fact this thing remained only on paper.
The carcinogenic hormone is easily purchased in agricultural pharmacies, even indicating in the pharmacy that it was required for use in tomatoes.

Fiksi bought this hormone in a pharmacy in Lushnje, meanwhile he found it in two other pharmacies that sold it without a problem, even dividing it by grams.

One of the pharmacies indicated that it has the product, but does not sell it because it is prohibited for tomatoes.
So even after the decision of the registration commission for Plant Protection Products, the carcinogenic product is marketed. Top Channel
