Toxic waste, Shehaj: Our country is only used to make paper

Economy expert, Brisida Shehaj spoke about the debate of toxic waste exported from Albania.

Invited to Syri TV, Shehaj said that she has doubts that these wastes were not produced in Albania, but our country was used only to make the documentation.

"Rama did not give any answer in fact. He came out there and said that we received waste from France, Spain and many countries and we exported to France.

The Albanian legislation that we had to see is very clear; hazardous waste can be exported, but the permission of the host country is required. With the new law, they had removed the approval of the host authority.

So we are not saying, it is allowed or not, but the permission of these exports has a certain procedure. Have these authorities followed these procedures? The story is that simple.

You companies that export fruits and vegetables and leave the customs there, whether you have the analysis right or not.

Hazardous waste cannot remain in open fields, it must be kept in designated places. You have to take it from the country, keep it in its warehouses where this company is located and send it to customs according to the rules.

State institutions cannot escape responsibility, and here I mean customs. Edi Rama did not say this today. Edi Rama did not give an explanation today.

He did not mention that the 20,000 tons that came out of the report were exported. Edi Rama did not mention it.

The report separates, it said, 2,800 tons of non-hazardous iron waste and 20,000 tons of hazardous zinc waste, which were exported, but did not say when or where.

For the trafficking scheme to happen, it means that, if these wastes came from abroad and documents were produced that there are 20 thousand tons in Albania, it means that the wastes did not come with papers and we do not know what came .

My suspicion from the beginning is that in such a scheme, done in this way, this concern was raised in Thailand, where they do not even accept the waste analysis, my suspicion is that the waste that entered Albania entered illegally and did not we know something. And the Sokolaj company and these 20,000 tons were used only to justify the documentation, to make it appear that they were Albanian waste, produced in an industry and have an Albanian name and then be exported.

If this happened, the Albanian customs and the Albanian state are doubly guilty,' said Shehaj.
