The intervention in the Karavasta Lagoon, ADF signs the 1.45 million euro contract
A part of the Karavasta Lagoon, which is widely visited by tourists, will undergo intervention in order to protect it from erosion. The Albanian Development Fund announced that it has already signed a contract with a value of 1.45 million euros, including the Value Added Tax, which has as its object Intervention for the establishment of sustainable SMECO models in villages with development potential: Systematization and protection of the northern embankment of the Karavasta lagoon from erosion". The winning company Alba Konstruksion will have 12 months to implement the first phase of this project.
ADF itself admits in documents that the crown of the embankment will serve as a tourist attraction for visitors. "The project "Systematization and protection of the Northern Embankment of the Karavasta Lagoon from Erosion, Phase I", aims to format with regular slopes the embankment on the northern side of the lagoon from CS-1 to CS-67, a total of 3785 m of embankment, and details the measures for the protection of the embankment from the erosion caused by the action of the wave + ebb tide in the lagoon as well as from the erosion caused by the rain showers.
Being a protected area, the materials that will be used for the protection of the embankment have been chosen to be environmentally friendly. The crown of the embankment serves as a tourist attraction for pedestrians to enjoy the natural beauty that the lagoon offers. On the embankment, three rest and observation tents will be built with wooden material, as well as three bridges with wooden material, which connect the embankments with each other in the parts where the streams and drainage channels enter the lagoon," the documents explain.
The Karavasta Lagoon is located in the center of the Western Lowlands of our country and is part of the Divjaka National Park. It is the largest lagoon in Albania and on the entire southern coast of the Adriatic. The lagoon is composed of an inner lagoon and a smaller outer lagoon. Three canals connect the lagoon to the Adriatic Sea.
Karavasta Lagoon and its Natural Park are one of the most frequented destinations in the country by visitors. Until May, this park held 37 percent of the total weight of visitors who visited Natural Parks./ Monitor
